This SmartElex Digital Temperature Sensor Breakout provides a combination of high-temperature accuracy with excellent low power consumption using the AS6212 digital temperature sensor from AMS AG. The sensor measures temperature data up to 0.2ºC; accuracy over a wide range (-40ºC; to +125ºC;) and consumes an average of 6A in normal operation (0.1A in standby). The AS6212 communicates via I2C and has eight available I2C addresses selected by a pair of solder jumpers on the board. The breakout routes the I2C interface to a pair of Molex PicoBlade connectors to work with plug-and-play Ecosystem but also routes the bus and other pins to a standard 0.1″-spaced PTH header for users who prefer a soldered connection.
The AS6212 features an alert output to trigger when recorded temperature data crosses user-designated thresholds. The low and high values make it perfect to monitor systems that must remain in a specific temperature range. Along with the alert pin, the AS6212’s sleep mode works with a single-shot temperature measurement to wake the device, take a single reading, and then return to sleep mode for extreme low-power/battery-powered temperature measurement projects.
