The SmartElex Analog/Digital MUX Breakout features the versatile CD74HC4067, a 16-channel multiplexer/demultiplexer that simplifies the connection of multiple sensors or devices to your microcontroller. Acting like a rotary switch, this chip routes a common pin (SIG) to one of 16 channel pins (CHANxx), allowing for seamless switching between analog and digital signals. With the ability to handle voltages up to VCC, this breakout is perfect for applications requiring low “on” resistance and minimal “off” leakage.

Controlling the MUX is straightforward: simply connect four digital outputs to the address select pins (S0-S3) and send the binary address of the desired channel. This allows you to connect up to 16 sensors or devices using just five pins. The CD74HC4067 is particularly useful for routing TTL-level serial data, making it an excellent choice for applications involving multiple devices, I2C, or SPI communication.
