A new official Raspberry Pi expansion board is introduced today. The Raspberry Pi Build HAT fits any Raspberry Pi with a 40-pin GPIO header and lets you control up to four LEGO motors and sensors from the LEGO Portfolio, a flexible system with unlimited possibilities. Build robust, intelligent machines that combine Raspberry Pi computing power with LEGO components. The angular motors come in a range of sizes and include integrated encoders that can be queried to find their position.
This is a HAT device that connects to Lego devices that use an LPF2 connector. An onboard RP2040 microcontroller takes care of the low-level control of the Technic devices while an external power supply is needed to provide power. At the top level, developers can make use of Python to query sensors and run motors.
There’s also a Python library available to go alongside the HAT, which will let you write software to control the robot parts you’ve got hooked up. Programing Lego’s components with Python isn’t a unique selling feature from Raspberry Pi — the kit comes with a hub that supports connecting six devices that can also store and run Python programs.
So, If you are a geek then this Pi build Hat is good for you.
