How loud is too loud? Want to detect? But, detecting sound isn’t as simple as a mic into an input, that’s why we are presenting the Seeed Studio’s Grove – Loudness Sensor for it! With this sensor, you will be able to detect the environmental sound and measure its loudness in terms of intensity.
This sensor is based on amplifier LM2904 and a built-in microphone. Signal conditioning and gain control are important and are incorporated into this Grove Loudness sensor. Using an electret mic and two-stage high-pass filter using an LM2904 OP-AMP, it creates a nice, detectable envelope signal for your Grove project.
This sensor receives the high-frequency signal from the microphone, then amplifies it to a certain extent and then, filters it. And finally, it provides a positive envelope at the output. This will make for Arduino’s signal acquisition. The output value depends on the level of sound input. In order to avoid unnecessary signal disturbances, the input signal will go through two times’ filtering inside the module. This sensor comes with a built-in screw potentiometer that enables manual adjustments to the output gain.
