Drone Sanitisation Drive in Punjab- India’s another attempt to fight COVID-19

India is fighting the corona virus pandemic proactively and smoothly. Many states did their part in their own defined way which helped them contain the spread. Having said that recently Hon’ble health minister of Punjab Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu launched a very unique plan for sanitising certain areas. Mr. Sidhu launched a Drone sanitisation drive starting from village Jagatpura in Mohali, Punjab.

Mr. Sidhu says the sanitisation drive will be implemented all over the state soon. He further says “once material is loaded on the drone, it has a capacity of 10 litres and can fly at a height of 15 metres. He added that it can cover a diameter of 20 feet at a time and disinfect six acre in 10 minutes.” That means, one drone could disinfect an area of six-acres in ten minutes. The drones have been provided to the Punjab Government by Garuda Aerospace.

The minister said sanitisation through drones would serve the twin purpose of keeping the virus at bay while also protecting people against dengue. Drones help spray disinfectant over large, crowded, vulnerable areas while reducing human contact to keep frontline workers safe. This drone sanitisation measure is being carried out in many other places across the country like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh and Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) as well.
